Fuel gauge not working - dealer problem

Just picked my car up from dealer after spending £740 to replace lost keys (which resulted in a new ECU).

Driving home I noticed the fuel gauge was flashing empty, needle right on the stop. Range display also showing -----. Stuck some diesel in at the nearest fuel shop and checked again. Still no good.

I called the dealer on the way home (hands free of course) to tell them to make a note and await my call tomorrow.

My question is:
I guess this is to do with the ECU change but is there anything I can do to try and get it working myself ?
Whilst I want to just pass it back to the dealer I have just got the car back and since 21st June. I really have no more time to arrange to get the car to the dealer.

Oh, and they did not even set the right time/date on the display. Not what I would call a professional service.

Thanks

Tee hee. As I expected the local dealer has committed to investigate but would not commit to picking up the bill - it depends on what they find.

I could be taking this to the top guy at Alfa because I wont be paying for something they caused. Dont care if it just a fuel gauge.

Just read a nice post about Alexanders at Stockton. I'm of there next time.

Re: Fuel gauge not working - dealer problem

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem of the fuel gauge showing empty ? I want to build an arguement to prove to the dealer that it was their fault. Need as much ammo as possible.

I would be surprised if the sender just happened to fail whilst the car was in the dealers possession.
I have looked at the connectors onto the computer but don't really know what more I can do.

I have a hunch that the dealer is going to try and get me to pick up the bill for this.

Re: Fuel gauge not working - dealer problem

The stealer fixed my fuel gauge. It was related to the recent ecu change and (surprisingly) they did admit liability.
Other than my inconvenience I dont suppose I can complain too much this time.
Another problem solved.
