I always like to use the same oil as used in the servicing of my car (I don't do my own any more). If you are the same it may be worth asking if the service garage will sell you a bottle to use for top ups. Mine gave me a bottle for the Rover (fair exchange ) for nowt, but I have been using him for years.

Re: Selenia oil............

Selenia is very expensive for what you get.

You can use other oils as long as the viscosity and APi/ACEA ratings are the same.

However, you should change the oil every 6,000 miles instead of the specified 12,000 miles.

I my self would change the oil and filter every 6,000 miles even with Selenia in the sump. Alfa engines don't generally tolerate dirty oil well.

Re: Selenia oil............

my alfa dealer uses magnatec, they say selenia is too expensive and unnecessary

alfa / selenia are linked by business deals, not by an alfa's requirement for the brand

Re: Selenia oil............

anyone know what viscosity selenia is? eg 10W40 or whatever? and is selenia racing the same or is it different viscosity?

i've always used selenia racing for top-up purposes, £17 for 2 litres at alfa dealers i used to get it at caledonia manchester as i passed there a couple of times a week but they've gone bump and i ain't doing a 80 mile round trip to mango's for a bottle of bloomin oil

warranty is now a fading memory so might look for a new (cheaper) oil for top-ups as she's just drunk my last litre of selenia this evening ....

Re: Selenia oil............

Al, the JTS engine needs 10w 60 fully synthetic oil as the it runs at a higher temperature than the Twinny.

Re: Selenia oil............

A while ago I wondered why the 10/40 oil in my TS was still golden after some time but the JTS engine turned blackish quickly. Selenia replied from Italy that the JTS runs much hotter as said. So needs racing oil which handles this & is able to work well even with a high soot content, or at least a similar oil should be used.
