2.4 JTD SW Veloce 2001 91k - Modified
Hi All,
In need of quick feedback please. Went to see a VGC grey JTD yesterday - now I know a fair bit about 156's, but not the JTD's, so looking for a few answers.
It was a 135bhp model that had been chipped to 185bhp - went really well but when stationary, I asked him to rev the car hard, and quite a bit of black smoke came out on the rev up, then stopped. He said this was due to rechip. Is this right.
The work was done by Monza - are they good??
Are these cars clutch destroyers - it's had it's replace 2k ago.
He has has the suspension lowered and fitted it with Elbach springs - looking under the car it seemed VERY low, with not much clearence.
Wants £3450 ( may go a bit lower )

Re: 2.4 JTD SW Veloce 2001 91k - Modified
Hmmm, the black smoke doesn't seem good, I've just had my 2.4JTD ('52) remapped (150->200bhp), and I don't get any black smoke. If the clutch has been replaced with an uprated one then you shouldn't have a problem, if he's just put a normal one back in then it is likely to go ... also I've got Eibach Pro Kit springs fitted to mine and they only lower it 30mm from standard (5mm shorter than the sports pack), I'm surprised that his are lower than that ...
... I got my '52 (albiet it was 100% standard at the time) about 3 months ago for £3800, the question you have to ask yourself is that if he has had all this performance work done the car will probably have been driven hard ... might be better to look for one that's been driven by an old man ... like mine was ...

also ...
I've not personally used Monza (must admit I haven't used them), but it might be worth giving them a bell and chatting to them about the car ...

Cheers - I intend to speak to Monza tomorrow.
What do you think the black smoke could signify.
Must admit the front bonnet / bumper were a little "sandblasted"

Means often that the map is not correct.

Doing a quick search on here, the black smoke could be anything from a blown turbo to an oil leak ... I'm not really an expert in these matters ... but I'm sure that one of the guys here will be able to give you a heads up ... if not I'm sure that Monza will be able to tell you

Re: 2.4 JTD SW Veloce 2001 91k - Modified
£3400 is way overpriced for the car. I sold mine, 136bhp model remapped to something similar to this one, new clutch, belts, suspension, brakes etc for less than £3k and that was in February.
I've seen them go for as little as £2k in good condition, and a remap doesn't cost much.
If he has lowered it without changing the shocks then the ride will be crap and it will probably bash the sump off speedbumps.
I wouldn't buy it unless he dropped the price and I could check the sump for cracks.
And yes, when remapped they eat clutches. Expect one to last 40k or less if you drive hard.

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
decat pipe and SuperSprint rear box, FK coilovers, Dastek Unichip - my 245bhp beast!
Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

What mileage are you talking about.
I've been looking for ages with no better results ( e JTD SW2.4 90k 3400) - looked in autotrader / ebay / pistonheads / etc

Woe, the price, for a 136bhp!!!!
The one in the pic, facelift 1.9JTD, did have a few miles under its belt at 99k, but I thought £2750 was getting a bit high for that, which is why I didn't buy it!

auction - bca bedford a week back, could have sold for 2400 (but I wanted it and was prepared to pay 2700 for it, so it went higher), it was due a service (not overdue) and with 99k you could expect to spend a few hundred on worn out bushes etc, but thats status quo with them all.
It was 6-speed and a mjet too!

I've also been looking in my local auction house - Manheim London - but difficult for me to wing it around the country to far flung auction houses....
