Re: new GT clutch joy :)

How long do they last? Mine has felt a bit notchy from brand new when hot in stop-start traffic. At 26000 miles it seems coarse compared to the rest of the car. Should I ask for a replacement as the car is still under Alfa warranty?

Re: new GT clutch joy :)

Clutches should be good for at least 72K, if it's notchy now then yes get it replaced, it may be the thrust bearings worn out prematurely, which will very soon hack it's way through the finger plate.

My clutch lasted 90K as did the dual mass flywheel that needed changing at the same time

Re: new GT clutch joy :)

My GT is in at the moment or a new clutch under warranty after only 20k. It was heavy and had a rough pedal action when depressed. They initially thought it was the thrust bearings that had worn out prematurely and was wearing it's way through the finger plate. However I am now having a new dual mass flywheel as well.

Is this a common problem, as there seem to be a lot of posts on the forum?

Re: new GT clutch joy :)

The clutches on the JTDMs seemly to be quite guilty of going heavy. Does anyone know if the JTDs also have a dual mass flywheel? Generally the dual mass system is quite unreliable. If you have a petrol engine with dual mass, sometimes there are conversion kits to change to a traditional single mass flywheel, (cheaper too). A chap in LUK technical advised me they don't recommend this on diesel engines as it just moves the vibration somewhere else. This is probably right enough, but LUK have just invested millions to produce dual mass systems of the OE market. I haven't been brave enough to risk someones diesel engine/gearbox yet.

Done my CBT and theory test. Awaiting practical bike test now.

Re: new GT clutch joy :)

JTD has a DMF. Mine's always been heavy - no difference after a new clutch (genuine Alfa/Valeo) & a new dmf.

Re: new GT clutch joy :)

Just had a new clutch under warranty at 48K because of very heavy operation ( not slipping or high ) , it transpires my car has now had 2 replacements !! - lets hope the quality has improved . Must say that operation is much lighter but take up etc do not seem altered.

Mine just been replaced at 54k (04 model) also because of heavy/judder. DMF was fine. Suggest the female that owned it rode the clutch. You can tell the previous was female due to ring-inflicted damage on steering wheel and gear knob. Gear knob also replaced. Total of £700.....

If I find out details of previous owner there will be some more ring inflicted damage courtesy of my size 10!!!!

My clutch has now been replaced along with the flywheel and it is as smooth as silk. Lovely to drive, even smoother.
