156 2.5 V6 Oil + Sump Question

Hi All,

Couldn't find any other posts regarding this, so I thought I'd start a new one.

I was just wondering if there is any difference between 10/40 Selenia Oil (you get from FIAT dealerships) and 10/40 Selenia "For Alfa Romeo" from Alfa dealerships.

I get all my bits for the 156 from my local Fiat dealer, although the oil you get from Shop4Parts.co.uk is branded as Selenia "For Alfa Romeo" - are they the same?

Has anyone also got the sump capacity for the V6 engine?

Many Thanks,
Tony.

I use Selenia Racing 20k 10W60 for my V6.. I thought that was Alfa's recommendation?

Re: 156 2.5 V6 Oil + Sump Question

just dug out the manual for the car, for the 2.5V6 Engine oil quantity is 5.9 litres which includes the oil filter.

For oil it says

Selenia 20K SAE 10W40 ACEA A3-96, API SJ
* for sports type driving Alfa Romeo recommends Selenia Racing 10W60 entirely synthetic oil
it also mentions
warning Do not top up with a different engine oil than the already existing one
but maybe peoples experience on here suggests the 10W60 as the norm, as they have more experience over the years with the engine than Alfa did when they made it.

I would say it depends on how often you are going to change your oil as well.. If you are changing it very frequently it doesn't matter so much what oil is in the car.

I use Selenia Racing 10w60 in mine as well. Just because it's called "racing" so it must be better

I think most independents will use 10w60 on the V6 as standard I think?
