sick of my exhaust.

does anyone know a GOOD custom exhaust place round the york area? im so sick of taking my 156 back to the garage for exhaust work, i just want it stripped, re-welded, re-flanged, whatever. it will not stop blowing, and im not taking it back to that particular garage.

i know a very good exhaust place, but they wont touch a custom.

flange at front of sports cat, welds on sports cat pipe, flange at rear of sports cat(all custom) and the backbox to centre connection are the problems. ive clamped, re-clamped, gun gummed and re-gummed, and it still blows. sounds fine for the few seconds i can get the gum to hold, but next time i start it it blows it out.

failing a custom place, anyone handy at welding and have some ramps?

If you fancy a trek up to Darlington the local Powerflow franchise are good..

Re: sick of my exhaust.

Now see having owned a Saxo and being on a online forum I used to hear alot about custom exhausts and heard alot of mixed reviews about powerflow fitters.

But if one comes recondmended then Id go for that. Your best bet is to have the complete system looked at and see what needs doing.

Re: sick of my exhaust.

The best advice i can give is the same I used to give to Saxo owners is:

Go in talk to the fitters, maybe even to the point of asking to have the car put on the ramp and have the system looked at.
Make sure your happy with what you both are agreeing on then make a appointment.

I think the more interested and keen you come across as the better, but thats just me

cheers fellas, sorry for not replying, yet again no reply notifications...

i may have to go to the wetherby powerflow dealer, although im going to wait until my new manifold arrives, im pretty sure the downpipe is blowing too, so have invested in a supersprint manifold/downpipe..

Re: sick of my exhaust.

yep, and brand new, clearance item. bit of an issue though, wrong mating flange at the cat end. manifold has a 3-bolt flange, mine a 2-bolt..

Re: sick of my exhaust.

Not sure I'd bother with changing the manifold myself as the 156 has a 4-2-1 anyway, for what it costs to buy and replace the gains cant be that great - can it?

Anyone know what kinda pony power increase we are looking at with a Supersprint 4-2-1 over Alfa 4-2-1

I'd say probably aroud 1-2Bhp at best, the greatest gain is removing the cat from the system but then every time its mot season your back under the car again.

Re: sick of my exhaust.

Agree, Id save the money and put it else where, I dont think I could be bothered mucking with changing the cat twice a year:

Once to put it back on for the MoT
Twice to remove to go back to decated

A decent cat back system either single box or twin box, an investment in the induction area whether it be aftermarket or modifed GTA and then leave it that imo

Re: sick of my exhaust.

the supersprint manifold doesnt replace the cat....its just a combined manifold and downpipe. the lambda is in roughly the same place, the separate section you may see is a bolt-in flexi section.

Re: sick of my exhaust.

DP, but i bought that because i need to replace my downpipe, and cheaper pattern units are crap, at best. welds on the inside of the pipe reducing the diameter? think i will pass.

Re: sick of my exhaust.

The Supersprint manifolds are tuned length as well I believe, whereas the normal manifold, although its a 4-2-1, I don't think it is.

Re: sick of my exhaust.

Any idea how much a powerflow system (cat back I suppose) would cost for a 1.9 JTDM GT?

What do you want from your exhaust system? Looks, sound, performance?

Just a standard, stainless steel replacement.

I'd wait til you need one, your exhaust shouldn't need replacing yet should it?
