Alfa Romeo 156 MPG

I own an alfa 156 2004 model, JTS, veloce.
The onboard computer is showing an average feul consumption of 18.3 mpg.
Can this be right?
I only drive about 10 miles a day to work and back in traffic, ie. urban use, but this still seems way too low.
any advice or answers gratefully received!
thanks

Re: Alfa Romeo 156 MPG

Fill up the tank, set trip mileage then calculate from the next filling.
If mileage is correct you can easily check mpg, or miles per litre.

Re: Alfa Romeo 156 MPG

Is the car getting up to temperature ok? It should sit between 85 and 90ºC most of the time whilst driving then maybe rise to around 95ºC in traffic when the fan comes in.

A stuck open thermostat will cause cool running usually at around 60ºC and poor MPG

Re: Alfa Romeo 156 MPG

About how many miles do you get from a full tank?

If the computer is right, you'll only be getting about 240 miles from a tank. Is that the case?

i will fill up the tank, reset the trip odometer, and see how many miles i get until the tank is damn near empty. how many gallons in a full tank on the 2.0 04 JTS roughly?

Re: Alfa Romeo 156 MPG

I get mid-high 20's in mine in traffic. Mid-high 30's on a run. My average works out at 29mpg across the board approx 320 to a tank as a rule. Am a big fan of Forte gas treatment - clean the throttle body with some and put the rest in the tank. Should help

Incidetally - I have the same car as you

when you refill after doing a few hundred miles work out the mpg based on how much you put in to refill the tank to the brim rather than 'roughly' how much a tank holds.
