147 front exhaust pipe

Hi everyone

Im quite new to this,

I have just found a crack in one of the front pods on the front pipe from the engine.

It's this part : TS 16v downpipe

I was wondering if anyone knows how much it would roughly cost??

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

I'm saddened to learn this is all one part, as mine has taken a battering from a speed bump somewhere in its past.
I can't imagine it will be the cheapest part given it has a cat in it (infact the decat version is £385 ), but why not give EB a call?

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

Spoke to ebspares, there are different variants for this part depending on the last 8 digits of the chassis number. The most expensive being £650.

I have had a quote for a performance replacement of £150. My only concern is that the correct akfa replacement has two sensors in the cats. And the performance replacement only has one cat??

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

What are the implications of taking the cat away there, is it a likely emissions test failure to follow?

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

The cat would be replaced by a single unit, and there is a 2nd cat in the middle pipe.

I used to run a clio 172 with one cat in the center only, and that always passed the mot. Sounded great aswell

And costs only £110, im not going to spend the amount asked from eb spares.

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

Sounds like you got a bargain, I had to replace mine and after months of searching for a cheaper quote than the dealers of £700 plus fitting I eventually managed to get one through 'Kwik-Fit' fro £350 including fitting and VAT.

I know I'll get slated by the purists, but the part was an official Alfa part and I have a 3 year waranty that comes with it.

Thought about the option you are doing, finally opted for the twin pre-cat, be interested to know how your's do in the way of performance and sound with this option.

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

Jackpot:

Im going to fit it myself, as im really not in the mood to pay for a mechanic to spend a day doing it; Ive already had it off once, it was easy to get it off. An axle stand to hold up the center pipe, and the normal jack to raise the front abit.

alimac1973:

The stats look quite promising from the site.

just choose alfa romeo, 147 etc and they have the power graphs for a normal 147 and more for different pipe styles

SUPERSPRINT WEB SITE: WELCOME!

I already have a pro speed 4.5inch back box with limited baffles. And it sounds amazing. Always get people looking in their rear mirrors, to find out what it is behind them.

Its one thing i love, dropping it into third and getting on some B roads, roll on the summer.

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

Its a great car for those b roads.

I've got mine fitted to a CSC mid & back box, sounds fantastic.

A tip if your interested, although you have probably ordered it, fit new exhaust gaskets either side, they don't cost a great deal, the dealers should be able to supply them quite easily.

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

Already one step ahead of you on that one. They are comming with the new pipe.

The only thing i am unsure of is the metal shroud that bolts to the standard front pipe?

Im pretty sure it's only there to protect the cats?? Mine has completely cracked from top to bottom (whoops) do you thing it should be replaced??

Also another cheapish add on for sound purposes only, was a green air filter. Bolted directly to the Air flow meter, and sounds amazing. Was so suprised at how much piping the air box needed etc..

Smartens the bay up no end

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

After examining the front pipe i was shocked to see why it had failed.

You can see the seam weld on the top of the two pre-cats has failed all the way around the back side. This was caused by the support bracket breaking.

It had snapped clean off leaving the bracket still attached to the car and the long supporting bolt attached to the front pipe.

It had dropped by nearly 3cms putting enough strain on the pre-cats to split the weld.

Not something i though would happen, but clearly something to keep an eye on next time.

Re: 147 front exhaust pipe

You cannot actually purchase anything from the supersprint site it's just stats etc. The cheapest supersprint 753611 I can find is over £300 which I guess is pretty close to the price of a new alfa front pipe including cat
