Alfa 156 Whats it worth?

Hi Guys, a friend of mine has a looked after 156 Met Dark Blue, tan leather, lusso, R reg 1998, 1.8 TS, 16" Teles, etc, its got the odd marks here and there, and the seats are bit worn may be worth replacing them to cleaner ones, its got a 140k miles on it but condition of the car generally is good and worth buying for a run around, how much should i buy it for?

No more than a grand IMO.

About 1200 quid if its a good one mechanically & has 12 months MOT - but there has to have been no scrimping on servicing and must have a full history and list of replaced parts as long as your arm.

And if it needs ANYTHING doing to it mechanically, subtract the cost of that from 1200 to get the car's new value.

I wouldn't pay more than a Grand even for a minter with those miles. Especially as its a 1.8 and is one of the oldest 156's.

Hi, I recently got £1000 trade in for my 1998S 2.0 TS with 88k (which I thought was a fantastic price considering it was f**ked), just had a quick look on autotrader ... there as 1999T 1.8 with 12 months MOT and TAX for £650, but generally on there those sort of vintage seem to be up for about a grand ...

Sadly those age cars aren't really worth anything if you're trying to sell it (realistically how much more life does a 140k 1.8TS have) ... on the other hand great if you're buying one you could get a bargain ... but you really need to set your expectations low ...


personally I'd never sell/buy a car from a "friend" ... unless you want him to be an ex-friend of course!!!

If the seller is starting high,then get the low bid in and see where it ends?

Hi...i'm curious now....recently bought a 52 plate 2.0L selespeed, good working condition and with some service history including a new auto box at 93K....no tax but 12 month mot...paid 2,100 pounds....love the car so really imaterial...but do you specalists recon i got a good buy....sorry to hijack your thread but it did get me thinking.....cheers.

Yeah that's a good price I would say.. What's the mileage on it now? Is it in need of a service/cambelt change?

Hi...milage 116,000...new cam belt at 95,000, as stated new g/box plus lots of extras, loads of reciepts...really happy with car but just curious as to price paid....to late to do anything bout it now but discovered the enjoyment of changing down thru the gears (manually) over the last few weeks...the exhaust note is superb
