Just found something has damaged my chrome grill (with photos) – is it repairable????

I have just returned from a 600 mile run in my 147 and after washing her down found that something has hit the chrome grill!

It looks awful (see photos). Is there any way of restoring the chrome effect finish or am I looking at a new grill?

If it’s a new grill it looks straightforward to fit (screws at back) but it also looks like a bumper off job, could some enlightened DIY’er let me know if that is an easy task?

Hi Chris.....not sure about total repair. I don't think that this is a chrome finish on 'metal' in the traditional classic car style - so repair may not be possible. I think the best you can expect is to try some chrome polish etc.

One consolation is that this is just another stone chip and it's only really noticeable because YOU know it's there - I'd live with it to be honest.....promise I won't point it out at our next meet.

If it was completely cracked then that's another matter but I don't think it's worth the expense and effort involved in replacing it. And that's coming from a 'perfectionist' like me.

Dave, I know your right! and yes, because I know its there, my eyes only focus on that one spot every time I look at the front of the car (so its still annoying)!

This was also straight after a cat decided to ice skate on my bonnet three nights ago, turning perfect paintwork into one mighty T-cutting exercise…

Even my wife had some sympathy with that one…

I’ll put a sticking plaster on the grill for the next meet

Nice one Chris.....wouldn't want you to end up with an old 'banger'.

PS....are you coming out to play in Fife on the Saturday before the Scottish Italian Car day?

When a suicidal pheasant ran into my 147 grille it made an awful mess of it. I'd only had the car a week But I looked on eBay and got a replacement for £10 It wasn't worth phaffing about trying to fix the old one for that.

Your scratch doesn't look that bad, but if you're anything like me it'll really bother you that it's there.
