Xenon Bulbs

Has anyone any experience of the the H4 Xenon bulbs available on ebay, I recently bought a set for my 156. The ad states they are 50%brighter than standard bulbs and also they have a blueish tint to them.. However, whilst driving, they appear to be 50% dimmer. The spread of light does not seem to be the same. Could this be something to to with absorbtion by street lighting. I'm tempted to change them back, a fiddly task at best on a 156.

Re: Xenon Bulbs

how well did they fit in the hole? did you have to force them in?

I changed my bulbs recently and found that the muppet who had the car before me had put them in upside down....

Re: Xenon Bulbs

156 headlmaps use H7 bulbs, you have a big problem if you have fitted H4s
On a serious note, don't believe the hype of the advertising. I still maintain that any 'E' approved bulb cannot produce any more light than a standard one (and I have the figures to back this up) however there is some anechdotal evidence from forum members here that there is perceived improvement when using uprated bulbs from manufacturers such as Osram & Philips. Bulbs from other manufacturers vary considerably and are of such concern that we had the VCA guys in our darkroom the other week doing a check on such aftermarket bulbs that they had purchased from the net...the results were quite illuminating (excuse the pun) if a little worrying thats all I'm going to say!
