Re: JTD or JTDm?

Yeh, GM seems to have got first dibs with the twin turbo-its been in the 9-3 for at least 6 months and no mention of a use in a Fiat group product yet-Dunno why, its essentially a Fiat design, at least they ve reserved the higher power version for Fiat only

Re: JTD or JTDm?

I have noticed that many Alfa dealers advertise all their GT diesels as JTD's and don't differentiate between JTD and JTDm's. It may be that they don't want to draw attention to the JTD's. It is only when you go to look at the car that you see it has either a JTD or a JTDm badge.

However, it would be easy to change the badge and to a JTDm!

The JTD has 176 co2's and the road tax bracket is £170 this year, £205 in 2009, and £210 in 2010. It also does 42 mpg combined.

The JTDm has 165 co2's and is only £145 this year, £175 in 2009 and £180 in 2010, and does 45 mpg combined.

The JTD complies Euro III emissions standard and the JTDm is Euro IV complient.

I think the only way to tell apart from the badge is to look on the V5 to see if it is 176 or 165 of co2's.

On Parkers website JTD models are listed from 1 Jan 2004 to 31 Dec 2005, whilst the JTDm models are listed from 15 Aug 2005, so there is about a four month period when both were being sold and registered........ I think.

It would seem that if you buy an 06 GT it should be a JTDm, but I would still check the V5 to be sure.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I have certainly learnt a lot.

Re: JTD or JTDm?

Confusingly, Parkers list 47 mpg and co2 of 157 for all three 147 jtd 16 valves, whether its the 140 16v multijet (Euro III), the 150 16v multijet (Euro III) or the 150 JTDm (Euro IV). Doesnt make a lot of sense-if the revisions to the engine make a diference to the co2/mpg figures in the GT, then they should bring slight improvements to the 147 as well

Re: JTD or JTDm?

Hi,

The only thing I can help with is that I just bought an 05 plate GT JTD and its not marked with the M for modifica but it does fall into the lower tax catergory.

It is a great engine, I had a VW Golf Gt TDi before. Now when I put my foot down, its like regressing back to the days of star wars and the "Light Speed" scene, the diesel engine is truly fantastic eh?

Re: JTD or JTDm?

Same here. I've just bought a 2005 JTD, i.e. not an M according to the badge or V5. It falls into the lower CO2/tax bracket.

Mine is a "declared new at first registration" on 26th April 2007 [an 07 reg] badged as JTD on the boot lid and registered in the V5 as GT Turismo JTDm - CO2 165 (g/km)

Maybe Alfa were using up their collection of old badges?

Re: JTD or JTDm?

Reckon you might need to anyway to assure yourself of the ownership and right to sell the vehicle. It is always a good place to check the chassis & engine numbers as well. You don't want to end up buying a wrong 'un.

I suppose a quick way to check is to look at the cost of the tax disk and check the CO2 band as outlined above.
