Exhaust mystery price....

Hi, Glad to be on this great forum! Hope someone can advice me on my first, albeit, lengthy post.

I have an X reg, 2.0 156 TSpark. I put it in for a service today and even though it flew through the MOT only 4 months ago, all of a sudden this other garage is telling me that there is a corroded exhaust from the manafold (he used the term flexible pipe), corroded exhaust section to the back box and it's basically going to "fall off" at any moment.

On the Road Test sheet under the exhaust section he has put "Front pipe flexi broken rest of exhaust corroded"

Here is what he quoted me for as I said I wanted a second opinion and I reckon you guys and gals may be able to give me the true story of whats going on:

Catalyst F/Pipe Code 301345 - £183.99
Exhaust fittings - £1.49
Exhaust Code AR166H - £55.99
Exhaust Code AR169D - £127.99

Anyone know if the above codes are Alfa part codes? Also is this guy ripping me off on this quote?

Thanks for any advice!

My mate has a electrcial/mechanical firm and I'm gonna get him to ramp it up and have a look tomorrow. Always nice to get a third opinion. Just wondered if anyone on here know's what this garage is talking about?

Also, anyone know of a good garage in Portsmouth that is not gonna charge Alfa prices?? PM me please, so I can get another quote. Thanks.

Re: Exhaust mystery price....

Ok thanks for the that weblink. I put my motor in as:

Alfa Romeo 156 2.0i Cat. Twin Spark 16v. Saloon. 1970cc AR32301 Engine. 01/1998-10/2000

And it indeed listed all those part numbers, just like the quote I have sat here in front of me, and it came out at just a snip over £200.

I'm sure I got the right car as the other two options did not list any of the parts, so I think I got it right.

Makes me wonder wether the garage I just got the quote from uses the same site eh?

Re: Exhaust mystery price....

If I were you I'd find a local LongLife or Powerflow custom stainless exhaust fabricator and get them to put it up on their ramps. You can then get under the car and see exactly what needs replacing, and they'll talk you through it.
