Not Happy It was just a matter of time!

Noticed this morning I had a small scratch on my new black metallic paintwork

Odd place as it's at the top of the rear pillar on the passenger side - I doubt it was deliberate. Only about a cm long and very thin but the metal work is visible.

My question - what's the best way to hide the scratch. I don't want to make it look worse than it is but equally I'm worried that if I do nothing it's a potential rust problem as well as looking unsightly.

Someone suggested that a small amount of paint on something like a sharpened pencil tip would allow me to only get paint where it's needed - seems like a sensible suggestion but I'd welcome others.

Steve

Re: It was just a matter of time!

Depends how deep it is? If you can catch it with your finger nail the chances are it's too deep to polish out. Try Megs Scratchx or similar but don't overdo it. Otherwise it's carefully applying paint. Take your time, build up the coats and then flatten back with an abrasive polish. Finally, apply clearcoat and a good coat of wax.

I've got one on my passenger door and am following the same process but it's a bit too cold at present to do a top job

If you can see metal then it's probably a bit beyond a DIY job!

Probably worth getting one of those chips away type services to do it.

I think you can find your answers here.
paint-clinic

touch up pens are for this type of thing, easily fixed never to be seen again.

Re: It was just a matter of time!

Thanks all.

Just had another look and I think it's actually the primer rather than the metal I'm seeing. If I run my finger over it it's undetectable but the fingernail can find it.

Hopefully won't be too bad.
