156 crank position sensor location

Please Help!
My 156 2.4jtd has been difficult to start and has just started cutting out while driving. It will restart after about 15mins.
I have a new crank position sensor and I want to fit it. Trouble is I cannot find the location. I have looked at some threads and they say it should be at the back of the block underneath the starter motor, but I cannot find it. Just spent an hour under the car with a torch and i'm beginning to think my eyes are painted on.
Hope someone can help as I want my beast back on the road asap.

Ignore the above, just found it. I was wrong about how easy it would be. There is too much engine in there to make working on it easy.
I just hope that will cure my issues!!!!

Re: 156 crank position sensor location

hi mate, best got at from underneath whilst on a lift, think it would be a bit tricky laid underneath it is a tricky job but console yourself that you are on the right track to cure the problem as that is exactly how mine behaved, lost count of the times i had to sit listening to the radio for the engine to be able to restart, as you say around 15mins, such a relief when that little game ends, can't imagine what would have happened if i'd been on the motorway when it stopped

It'll be in a different place on a jtd....

I don't know for sure where the sensor is on a JTD but if its anything like the V6 or T/S its easy enough to replace.

Re: 156 crank position sensor location

on any engine it will still be in a position where it is able to read the flywheel, so the position cant vary very much. usually the starter motor area is a good place to start looking no matter which engine you are playing with.
