Moaning cigar lighter bulb

bulb that lights the lighter socket is not working, lighter works ok. I assume the bulb is fused separately (probably dash lighting) since this is all lit I assume the bulb has blown.
Problem is I cant get the socket out, i've pulled the gearstick gaiter off and can see and feel most of the underside of the socket and pull the power plug away from the socket, but I just cant get it free.
Any advice anyone please ???

Re: cigar lighter bulb

That bulb was blown on me when I bought the car brand new. Replaced the fuse for it (it has its own I think) and it worked fine.

Re: cigar lighter bulb

Manual shows a pair of expanding pliers inserted into the socket (battery disconnected or fuse removed) but I managed to insert a digit into the socket on my GTV and with just a little judicious wiggling pulled it from the mounting. Bulb is held at the side.
