146 3rd Gear Problem
I currently have a 146 1.8 TS that doesn't like to stay in 3rd gear whilst turning right around a roundabout or taking a sharp junction at more than 25mph. It doesn't do it at every right turn, never does it when turning left or under harsh acceleration in a straight line. There is no loud clunk or noise when it happens, the gear lever just slides out of gear quite gracefully.
I recently had the lower engine mount replaced and wondered if it was to do with this and engine movement, possibly other worn mountings.
I have taken it to the local main dealer (foolish I know) and they replaced a tie rod (£250) and now say that it is the gearbox (presumably because they want more money!).
The car did it when I first bought it 4 years ago and the delaer repaired it by cleaning and greasing the pivot points, and it has been fine until recently. (£80)
All other gears are fine and when driving forward under load it is possible, although difficult to pull it out of 3rd gear (good yank required).
My feelings are that it is an engine movement problem but I would welcome any advice or suggestions from fellow owners.
