Hi mate, things to check:-
Keys, it should come with three keys - two "normal" red keys and a burgandy "Master" - there can be issues if you don't have the master.
The bushes on the front wishbones go - listen for knocking from the front over bumps.
Give the rear shocks a bounce as these are known to fail.
The cambelt is 3 years or 30,000 miles
If it sounds like a diesel at tickover the variator has gone - c. £400 inc cambelt change.
The T/S engines use a bit of oil, not a problem as long as its not been run low. Check the level and condition of the oil.
Have a poke about underneath, the floors weren't galvanised and some are rusting now.
As long as the car is properly maintained there is no reason it won't be reliable. I've had mine nearly 8 years and covered over 60k together, its never let me down, or failed to start (touching large piece of wood!)
There are some real bargains out there, you wont get a better driving rarer car for less, but do be prepaired for higher bills than your average car.
