Hmmm Ti brakes on a Boxer?

Hi everyone

The brakes on my 1.6 Boxer have all been replaced recently, even hoses and rebuilt calipers. Trouble is they're still a bit pants. The brakes on the T-spark GTV I used to have were really good in comparison. Well actually, in comparison it was like having a parachute!

The 1.6 boxer has solid front discs and drums at the rear. I was thinking of fitting some Ti brakes as there are always a few people breaking cars for parts on ebay. Do I just need the discs and calipers from a Ti or would I be looking at hubs too? My brake flexi's are new, would i need the ones for a Ti too or are they all the same?

I would assume changing the rear to discs would involve a whole rear end? and new handbrake setup. This is a bit more work than I really want to do as I use it every day and my MGB is my project!

Most of the braking is done by the front so I recon this should make quite an improvement. I assume the disc diameter on the Ti is quite a bit larger as well as being vented?

If anyone has done this or knows what i need then I would appreciate your help before taking my car to bits and finding out I only have half the parts I need!

Cheers, Paul

Re: Ti brakes on a Boxer?

Gets a bit complex as the disc braked cars all have ABS and your boxer with drums will not have the necessary bits, eg ABS pump, ECU, wiring, different handbrake etc etc. Its also a job your insurance company will want to know about as you are changing the basic set up of a safety critical component.

It would be much less hassle to get to the route cause of the lack of performance of your current set up IMHO.

Re: Ti brakes on a Boxer?

Have you considered just fitting some red dot grooved front disks and Performance Pads?
