No other signs at all.
It ran perfectly, just occasionally loosing half of the contents of the coolant tank.
No overheating, no oily coolant or milky oil.
I had put it down to a leaky heater matrix.
Until that day when I went to start it at the post office when it became immediately obvious where the coolant had been going. Because it wouldn't turn over. Checked the coolant (I had already topped up that morning) and the tank was empty again. Waited a while, tried to start again and it ran OK as long as I didn't let it go to a trailing throttle. The slightest bit of trailing throttle and you could feel the coolant getting sucked into the cylinder again...
That afternoon I took the cylinderhead off and found the problem.
