I have recently renewed all of my wheel bearings as 3 were naffed and 1 was nearly naffed. in doing so i busted the driver side front abs sensor. I ordered 1 and drove around for a week with the abs light on. The abs would pulse once or twice under heavy braking without the wheels locking. I got the new sensor and bunged it on. fired it up and abs light went out, great i thought. went for a spin and now the abs comes on every single time i brake. i can hear the pump errrrr abs ing its nuts off and feel it pulsing through the pedal. I have tried pulling the fuses out and cleaning them. I have tried getting a self diagnostic out of the system but the plug clipped to the fuses isnt labelled a-b-c its 1-2-3 so i tried earthing pin 1 and 3 but nothing came of it. The abs light is off and stays off.
The wheel bearings i've put on are the magnetic encoder type and came with lots of warnings about the magnetic ring on the back. i have put a line on the osf one when i was pressing them in and at one point it came apart as i was fitting it. As i understand it the magnetic ring is what the abs sensor gets its signal from.
So what i want to know is
Would the slight damage i've done to the magnetic encoder make my abs behave like this?
Does the system need a full reset after having new sensors or bearings etc?
CAN ANYBODY OFFER ME ANY HELP OR ADVICE ATALL ON SOLVING THIS PROBLEM.
after just spending £400 on new brakes, wheel bearings, full service
and £250 on a full cambelt and variator kit. funds are tight.
I'd be happy to bodge it for my mot so i'm road legal then sort it out properly afterwards when i get paid again.
