another thought, the sound can also be the thrust washers, on the engine crank. I had these go on my car and mis-diagnosed as the clutch bearing, clutch was not great in the final event, so not all was lost. These washers stop the crank from moving up and down the length of the engine, when the clutch is pushed in, its under load, and the crank scrapes on the back of the oil pump IIRC. Its a known problem on earlier 2.0 cars, the 155 ers will know about it, it was beefed up for later engines.
The cost of replacement is a lot less as just the sump has to come off and the washers can be done with the crank in situ. Symptom was it did it more when the car was warm than when cold. Something else to consider.
