Just Bought a Junior
Hi, 145/146 section. I just picked up a cheap 145 Junior as essential transport pending the right 166 (and necessary funds) coming along, my 156 V6 having suffered belt failure. There are a couple of things that need attention:
Stiff gear selection, esp first and second. I have a pair of 'top hat' gear linkage bushes in the garage that I brought for my wife's 147. Will these fit a 145?
Runs at about 60, dropping at speed, so I suspect thermostat is jammed. I have one from a 2.0 155 kicking around somewhere - again, will this fit a 1.6?
Passenger seat base is jammed, I assume in the position it reaches for rear seat ingress. I haven't had a chance to look at this yet, but assume it's a fairly straightforward fix
Interior minor is upside-down! It must have come off at some time and been carelessly refitted. I assume it just wants pulling off and inverting, but I wonder why it wasn' t done before?
It has a terrible vibration at about 65 MPH. This goes away to an extent at higher speed, so I assume a wheel very badly out of balance, so I'll run it into my friendly neighbourhood tyre shop for investigation. It doesn't feel like lower A arm wear and the wheels don't get hot.
Otherwise everything seems to work and the Twinspark engine is smooth and pulls nicely. Variator is quiet when warm and the belt has about 6,000 miles in it. To drive, it feels somewhat like a mix of 155 and Tipo, which is hardly surprising. The 155 I once owned didn't feel like a Tipo, so I put this down to the driving position and those Tipo stalks, which I don't remember the 155 having) .
Specifications in the owner's manual don't appear to cover the Junior, which has 15' teledial wheels and, I believe, "Quickrack" steering and rear disc brakes, so is more like a 1.8 in specification.
The sun is shining, so I'll give it a clean up and do above jobs if I have correct parts today.
Seller reckons he'd been on the website that tells you how many are still on the road, and this is one of only 18 Juniors left.
