this just got very expensive....camshaft knackered
I am currently sat in the waiting area at the alfa workshop.
was in for a cambelt, variator, water pump, tensioners idlers ..the whole kit and kaboodle..Ben then comes up and informs me that the exhaust camshaft has had it...!
new camshhaft £396...total bill including the fitting of new rear pads £1014..
I am shocked an dismayed that a car with 31k on the clock can have a camshaft failure.
and a full service history as well, owned by dealer, lady then fiat mechanic form whom I bought the car.
how can I avoid this kind of bill again?, I have been using 10/60 oil and now think that its too thick and is not lubricating the top end properly, especially in winter temperatures.
so back to 5/30 0r 5/40 and put up with higher consumption?.
mileage currrently almost 39k.
I need to get the next 36k out with no issues.
after my experience with this car my thinking is now to go buy an alfa with 75k on the clock for half the price I paid for this low mileage example and budget for these problems.
its a nice car to be sure but blimey that is just shoddy from alfa on build quality.
Just realised I have posted in the wrong place..
have emailed a mod to move it.
