I am new to the forum, and am hoping someone here can help with some advice.
I recently bought a ’98 146, and the driver side front electric window has a mind of its own.
If I press the ‘down’ button it works fine, but then when I press ‘up’ it continues to go down all the way, and stays there for anything up to 20 minutes, after which it goes all the way up without the button being press at all.
Fortunately the windows stays up once there, so I have had to stop using it for now.
All the other windows work fine, so I have tried switching the wiring over to the passenger switch, but this made no difference to its behaviour.
I can hear a relay behind the dash clicking when I try to operate the window, but my guess is that its receiving the ‘down’ signal and this is just a normal sound. I would think this relay in the dash is the same one for all 4 windows, so here’s my question
Is there any kind of relay or solenoid or control unit in the door that could have got moisture in it and is sending these wrong signals? Or maybe I’ve got a wiring short somewhere? Or possibly something else?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated
I did manage to find this thread here, but didn’t help with my problem.
