Can anyone tell me why this problem occured.
I bought a nice 97 low miles 145 1.8 TS 5 weeks ago and parked it up on the drive for 4 weeks (SORN) while I sold my 156. It was started and warmed up twice in four weeks while it stood but after taxing it yesterday I tried to start it and of course the battery was nearly dead, it turned over slowly for 2-3 seconds and then died.
After recharging the battery enough to get it started would the bloody thing fire, no chance, it was spinning over really quickly but it wasn't even trying, it was then I suspected an electrical fault at first and after checking the obvious then thought of the immobiliser. Out came my friendly Mobile Tuning guy who immediately diagnosed the immobiliser fault as the Code Key light on the dash wasn't going out.
Now when I bought the car I was only given the Red Key, yeah I know I should have asked where were the others but for what I paid for it (eBay) I had no chance as the keys were'nt an issue or mentioned in the sale, so I thought I'll get the keys sorted myself.
So it's going to cost me £55 for 2 replacement Keys which I will then use instead of the Red Master, not an issue with me really as I'd prefer a full set anyway but am I right in thinking that using the Red Master key had nothing to do with the Immobiliser cutting in and refusing to start the car, am I also right in assuming it was the battery going dead that caused the problem, basically I want to know what I did to cause this.
Obviously the reason I'm asking is I don't want the same thing happening again as I can only get the replacement keys next week, after a full recharge of the battery and a good 40 mile run out to get her going again I've since used the car twice with the Red key and it's been fine.
Advice from any Alfa boffin is appreciated. Thanks
