Power Steering Issue - pressure relief valve?
Well i took the car to Llandow on Saturday - handling and ride were greatly improved with the Bilstein B6's and new droplinks fitted, and felt like it had better torque however the new power steering pump blew its seal like the old one also did at the end of the first session - I was not a happy chap after all the effort changing it! I cut the drive belt and got home on the battery...
I can get a new pump on warranty, but I think there is an underlying issue causing these pump failures - its as if pressure builds too high within the power steering system and then fails at the weakest link, in this case the pulley seal in the pump.
I didn't see a pressure relief valve on the pump - is there one on the steering rack? Could this be stuck closed causing the pressure to build up after a few high rev laps of the track? If so, can you replace the valve alone or do I need an entirely refurbished rack?
Any help will be greatefully received! Thanks.
