Servicing Questions

Hi all,

It's been 30k since my last timing belt change. Car is a 1997 145 cloverleaf with 85k on it. Running fine.
Can you tell me what do I need to buy? the belt and what else? tensioner? Does the whole thing come as a "kit"? how much approx?

Oh yeah, there is 30k on the plugs too, but I think they are good for 50k is it?

Thanks alot for any replies or suggestions.

Re: Servicing Questions

The kit will come with a cambelt, a new moveable tensioner and a new fixed tensioner. You will also need a new balancer shaft belt and a balance belt tensioner. It is also good practice to change the variator at the same time. This little lot will cost around 230 from Alfashop. Shop4parts is a bit more expensive IIRC.

You may also wish to change the auillary belt and it's tensioners. there is one moveable on and one fixed one, although if you don't have aircon it will only have the moving one.

And don't forget the cam locks..

You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.

Re: Servicing Questions

At 85k I'd stick a water pump into it too, as the belts need to come off to do this anyway.

Re: Servicing Questions

Hi, i recently did the big service too. The lads at EB spares were helpful with the 'parts to replace' list and i think there price was competative too (they also do cam locks, if you are being brave and doing it yourself).

As for plugs, pull out a couple and give them a check (just remove the plastic engine cover and the ignition coils). depending on the quality, they may last a bit longer. Bearing in mind that it is around 75 for the 8 new ones! And you may not want all the expense all at once!

Regards, Robert

Re: Servicing Questions

I assume it uses the same plugs as a 156 TS, so they should be ok for 60000miles/5-years.
