how do you tighten the handbrake?

ok this prob dead simply but for the love of god how do you tighten the handbrake cable on a alfa 146 ti 2001 .......

There is a nut under the handbrake lever to tighten the cable.

But, if your handbrake is crap it's more likely to need attention at the caliper end.

Yup, as Wrinx says, it's more like a problem at the caliper end. Check that the levers on the calipers go all the way back and rest on their stops. If not, your calipers are buggered and in need of some TLC or a replacement.
