Low temperature High Fuel, what sensor to replace?
I have been reading all the posts and others on this website and one or two more concerning temperature and fuel consumption issues with the 145 1.6 Alfa.
I am not a 'Petrol Head' and my knowledge of mechanics is limited. But I do understand schematics and a bit more.
My problem is I have become very confused with some of the terminology concerning 'Temperature Sensors', 'Coolant Temperature Sensor ', 'Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor',.
Furthermore a lot of the photos I have seen for the location of such sensors have no resemblance to my cars engine.
Very simply, I have an Alfa Romeo 145 1.6L 1995 petrol car.
My car was recently serviced and a new 'compatible radiator' was installed.
However in the last few months my engine temperature reading has dropped to 40/50C (motorway driving) and the fuel consumption has increased by about 30-40%.
After reading the posts on this site i replaced the S7 sensor (in my case compatible FAE 37220) temperature sensor connected to directly to the radiator (bottom right hand corner).
I thought this was the problem and indeed the car when parked for 15min reached about 80c and the fan kicked in. However when I hit the open road the temperature plummets back to about 40/50c an the fuel consumption rockets.
So my question is,
Can anyone advise me on what to do next? More importantly if anyone does recommend something I need to know where to look. I donít know where the 'Stump' or 'Manifold' or 'block' is so I will need a some help in terms of location of components that might need to be replaced.
