+25 bhp resistor

Hello all,

Has anyone ever fitted one of these resistors to their 146 ? Its fitted across the terminals on the connection to the air flow sensor and is claimed to increase the power by up to 25bhp by ensuring a feed of cold air. Anyone have any experience with this ?

Thanks in advance.

Never used one but nor would I.

Your engine needs to know how much air in coming in so it can adjust the mixture accordingly. Fooling it is just going to cause it to either run lean or rich constantly and lead to problems down the line.

If something sounds too good to be true....

Re: +25 bhp resistor

The theory is they go in the air temperature sensor circuit to make the ecu think the air coming in is colder with more oxygen in, so you can add more fuel to get more power.

Thing is, most of the time the lambda sensor is just gonna report back to the ecu and say "It's a bit rich down here, back off a bit - there's a good chap" so negating any effect.

In some circumstances like flat out when the ecu ignores the lambda sensor, it will make the engine run a smidge richer, but that won't really give you any more power.

Best let the sensors do what they are designed to. If you want more power that way, the only effective method is a remap of the ecu.

Make something idiot proof and someone will only go and build a better idiot...

There's been quite a few posts about these sorts of things, and nearly all agree they are rubbish. Its a case of if it seems to good to be true then it probably is.
