I have picked up a 9 year old 145 1.6 Twin Spark for a few hundred quid. It is not in bad nick and I only need it to last for 5 or 6 months so don't intend spending much money on it. In fact, it is a replacement for my recently written off 156, which was less than 3 years old...
However, under load in 5th, at about 4000 revs, it sends out a fair old bit of smoke through the exhaust. It has a bluish tinge so I guess it is oil. The temperature seems steady at around 60, it doesn't seem to lack power and it otherwise seems fine for its age and mileage (89,000).
I've got no service history to check on but as I said earlier, it didn't cost much anyway..
It has had a recent head gasket change and the oil is not contaminated with water, at least there is no sludge under the oil filler.
Is it likely that it is just a nearly worn out engine and best left to fade away over the next few months (if possible) or is there something else I can have a look at??
