Aye... some people manage to thread the new one over the tank until it comes out in roughly the right place but if I remember right there is a clip on top of the tank which presumably prevents the pipe rattling against the bodywork. The clip is near the front end of the tank.
You might be able to get enough space by just unbolting the petrol tank and leaving the filler neck etc. all connected, though the tank should be fairly empty and you should support it with something (jack maybe) so that it doesn't bend.. otherwise it might snap the lug where it bolts to the wing, inside the wheelarch (so loosen that bolt too).
If you're going to undo any of the tank bolts... use lots of penetrating oil and go gently on them... rotate them back and forth with lots of penetrating oil and WD40 .. you really don't want them to snap. Refit new bolts (M8) and use a lot of grease on the threads so that they don't seize ever again, ever.
The rubber hoses that pass under the swing arm might be rusted to the brake pipe hose, which tends to be made of steel too. Check out the source of a new rubber hose (or replace it anyway.. it's aboot a tenner) in case you can't separate yours fron the metal pipe.
No bullets for Chaingun..
