Re: More fuel Consumption questions?
CLI, The 145 TS seems to sit around 70C during a cruise, at least mine has done for the last 2 years. I replaced the thermostat thinking that it would resolve the issue, but she remained so.
The best way of testing it is to start the car from cold, and monitor the top rad hose. It should remain cold (or slightly warm) up to the point where the display reads 80C.
The thermostat in the TS is rated to START OPENING at 83C +/-2C, and to be fully open at 103C +/-2C, with a valve stroke of 9.5mm.
Mine remains cold till 80C, but yet the car sits at 70C. Odd. But, maybe the cooling effect of the air rushing the the engine bay has an effect on the sensor...?
On the fuel economy issue, mine has just completed 330 miles on a full tank... The 1.8 & 2.0 TS tank is 61l (1.4 & 1.6 = 51l), and the reserve is 5/8l... so that works out at approx 26.79 MPG (for a '97, 1.8 TS). Most of my driving requires me to do short trips, and the engine doesn't get a chance to warm up much.
I'd say I'll have problems as a result of this in the upcoming NCT. Watch this space!
