I have a '97 146.1.6TS, bog standard. Up till now it has always started first flick.
On Sunday I gave it the usual wash outside and vacuum inside. A couple of hours later when I went to start it the engine cranked but would not fire up. Called the home start service and watched the mechanic try to flatten my battery by cranking the engine continuously for several minutes. When it didn't start he uttered his words of wisdom "I don't think it's getting a spark, or maybe it's too weak". He offered no other tests or diagnostic or otherwise. I politely let him return to his lorry without further ado.
There are no unusual warnings on the dashboard and the battery is fine. I have checked for any loose connections and made sure all existing ones are properly seated.
So, what on earth has happened and where do I start from here?
