Re: Alfa 146 v Golf GTi
I am a golf nut, have been for about 4 years now, I have also just bought an Alfa 155. Its only the 1.8 8v TS (M reg) and I must say I am a little disappointed, the standard mk2 golf 1.8 gti 16v has 139bhp and only weighs 950kg, but as with many cars there are differenses between "identical" spec cars, some good some bad, I have owned 14 mk2's in the last 4 years and a good 16v will pretty much do anything on the road, but ive driven 16v's that are slower than 8v's. I have just sold a mk2 16v with a mk3 16v tall block in it which was running 174.2bhp, i had it on the track regullaly and it consistantly did 0-60 in under 6 seconds and a standing 1/4 mile in 13.9, top speed 148mph... sorry am getting off the subject, basically all i wanted to say was be carfull, those "140bhp" golfs you may try and race at the lights may not be 140bhp, there are loads running around with mk3 2L lumps in, and mk4 1.8T lumps. I dont know a lot about Alfa's but from what i have read and spoken to some mates about (they have 33's, 145's, and an early GTV 6) alfas just arnt as "tuneable" as the golf for instance.
Is there anything i can do to my 155 to improve the performance? I am impressed with the handelling, the inderpendent rear suspension seems to make a lot of difference compared to the torsion beam the golf uses. Is it worth chipping it, exhaust, filter or should i just try and find a 155 Q4?
Oh and i hope this doesnt sound like im slagging off alfas, i love them, and have always wanted an Alfa Giulia GTAM or a racing sud
