I was out troubleshooting the fuel vapour canister today on this car.
We determined that the solenoid is operational, it reads 33 ohms on a multimeter, and it's also opens and closes properly. What we did to test it was to connect it to the side indicator wire in the wing. On enabling the hazards, the solenoid opened and closed correctly! Good trick that!
I was able to read 14v coming into the solenoid from the ECU, but I was unable to confirm that the frequency is 16Hz. It may be that there is a high impedance in the ECU (meaning that there is voltage but no power) and this could be an ECU fault.
The device is connected to the battery through the Main relay, and we know that this OK. It then runs to the ECU.
Does anybody know for sure whether the solenoid is active when the engine is idle?
