Is that a boxer or TS engine?
I'd flush it out with new fluid firstly anyway.
The boxer one is easy enough to do... you just need fingers like Mr Tickle to get at the slave.
With the TS, you need to remove the battery tray and various other parts.
The fluid reservoir is shared with the brakes, so don't let the level drop too low.
After that, it could be the clutch plate springs that have either failed, or are failing. These return the peddle, and not any other springs...! There is a 1/2 inch spring in the slave cylinder, but this is just to keep the plunger under a little pressure.
