Is it cranking normally, and just refusing to fire? If so, it might be worth checking the condition of the relays contained within the Black Box of Bóllócks; the contacts of these are prone to corroding, and eventually it gets so bad the engine dies (they relate to the AFM, variator and ECU in one way, shape or form).
Look into the engine bay. On the left-hand side at the front of the engine bay, there's a small (4" x 2") smooth black plastic cover. Remove this, and underneath there're three relays (might be four; can't remember) and two fuses. One by one, gently remove them and clean the (corroded) contacts of the relays/fuses with a bit of wet-and-dry. Give the connectors into which they, err, connect a squirt of WD40, and replace the relay/fuse. Worked a treat on mine.
