Re: Rocker cover leak
Sorry to open up this old thread yet again, but Google search and the pictures that the original poster started with are exactly the same problem as I am having now/still.
Quick history - 147 2.0 TS 2002. Bear with me, please ...
Nov 2008 - decided I couldn't ignore the 10p size of oil drip every time I parked up fromm between engine and gearbox, so took it to my local (non-specialist) garage, and strip down and replace seal, gearbox rebuild as they found input bearing falling apart, new clutch (asked for as gearbox off anyway), some front suspension work (asked for as apart anyway), and apparently cam cover gasket. All good for a couple of weeks ... until noticed leaking again.
Early Dec 2008 - back in, gearbox rebuilt for free, as they'd sub-conned to some muppet, great until ...
Late Dec 2008 - Xmas shopping and preparing to drive 200 miles to the family, noticed oil on ground in new place - and on top corner of engine looks as photos in first post - oil collecting on and dripping off something I don't recognise just behind air-con pump. WHAT IS THIS? So the train took the strain for Xmas
Jan 2009 - back to garage. "one or two of the bolts had 'settled' and losened on the cam cover" apparently???
Had been alright, not depositing oil on ground over night, but making a mess of front of engine - so back in two days ago - another cam cover gasket (free) and new oil filler cap(not free), AND IS NOW DRIPPING OFF THE THING BEHIND THE AIR-CON PUMP AGAIN!
Any ideas? Actually consumption isn't too bad, but I'm only doing five or 6 miles at a time to work.
200 miles to do this weekend - I'll take it easy, but 400 miles to do over Easter, or is it the train again?
Thanks for bearing with me. I'm afraid of weakening, and worried it's nearly time to give up and go German ...
