Steering wheel vibrates over bumps
I have an Alfa Romeo 146 1.4 TS Junior for over 2 years and its steering wheel has always vibrated way to much in my opinion on bad roads.
The shocks are in good shape (80% efficiency judging by last mot), it has new wishbones (with ball joints), drop links, top mounts and it's plastic bearings, wheel alignment done and there's no play on steering nor any strange noises. And it doesn't vibrate on good surfaces not even at 190-200Km/h.
But when I go over bumps, or uneven roads, the steering wheel shakes (vertically and from side to side - bump steer) and it disturbs me. I feel every slight imperfection and even the smoothness (or lack of it) of the road. I know it has the quick-rack steering (2.2 turns lock-to-lock) and it's supposed to have great feel, but still... I had an 155 1.6 TS and a 146 1.4 Boxer (both on 185/60R14 - the Junior has 195/50R15) and never had those complaints. Also, the car is stock, not lowered.
What is your experience on this subject?
Thank you all so much!
