camshaft bearing caps
Just in the middle of changing the variator, belts etc and when I look at the inlet cam bearing caps that I've just taken off they are all to a greater or lesser extent suffering from a number of hairline cracks. The worst one is no.2 (with the variator supply groove in the cam) which has cracks in the angle of the little flanges either side and also across the top of the cap (running parallel to the camshaft). The bearing surface seems ok.
Has anyone come across this before? If so, did you dare to reuse the bearing caps?
Does anyone know if the bearing caps can simply be replaced by new ones, or do the new caps have to be bored on the cylinder head to ensure alignment? Or do I need a new cylinder head with its own bearing caps?
