I'd say ignore the reverse current issue, it's more than likey to be due to a blown fuse or such, or not an actual symptom of the failed radio.
Check for a fuse on the rear of the radio... I have one and I blew it during 'troubleshooting'...
About the engine problem... you should also give the butterfly valve a clean. It can become stuck partially open with a build-up of slime from the exhaust return.
The lambda probe may also be worn. Can your mech replace it with a bench-part for a test? After that, look at cleaning the Air Flow Meter with a carb cleaner.
Also, check the relays at the front of the engine... around the batteries. These can become corroded and cause some idling problems also.
