Slightly overfilled engine after oil change
The engine on my 146 (1.4 TS 103hp) was fully rebuilt by an independent specialist 4000miles ago. About 500miles ago, it was its first oil and filter change. I went for an original oil filter and Millers CFS 10w40 triple ester synthetic oil.
We overfilled the engine by 0,3L (instead of 4,4L, the engine got 4,7L) by accident and I drove the car with that amount of oil for less than 250miles. Now it's a bit below the max mark.
The exhaust pipe was wet and the car smelled like burning oil. All of that is gone now, except the engine sounds "weird", noisier and rougher, specially when cold and at low revs (above 3000rpm I can't hear anything different). Could I have damaged something? Or is it just the plugs (almost new, about 6000miles on them) fouled by the oil and it will go away?
We only overfilled the engine by 33cl, same a pepsi cola can, and I never drove on very high slopes during those 250miles or so. Could that hurt the engine so much as to cause it to sound different (a bit rougher)?
The oil I used before was Millers XFS 5w50. The engine didn't use a single drop, and it seems to continue that way.
