Help: power steering packed-in

I've had a buzzing sound from the engine which got louder and finally produced an effect last week: light clunk from the engine, battery warning light comes on and then power steering goes completely. Any idea? Grateful for any advice.

Idea Re: Help: power steering packed-in

Sound very much like the drive belt has come off!
However, there may be a reason for this such as worn bearings in a pulley/pump/alternator. This may have been attributable to the noise you heard previously.
Check the pulleys by hand, and also check the fluid level in the power steering reservoir.
