Help 164 Speedo

Recently purchased 1990 164 Alfa. Speedo is now only occassionally working and flickers from 20km to 90km in a blink of an eye. Where do I look to resolve this problem. Is the speedo read via a cable to the automatic transmission or is it electrical and connected somewhere else? Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this problem. There is not a lot of room around the v6 engine bay, I would really appreciate some help with this.

Cheers, Ants

Re: 164 Speedo

My Dad used to have a 1989 3.0 164 and had the same problem. Don't know what the cause was but, at the time, he was quoted around a 1000 to sort it, so he never bothered.
