Drive shaft can slide out of of CV joint?

I just discovered that my RH drive shaft can be pulled out of the CV joint far enough for it to pop out of it! That's not the case with the LH shaft.
Is this normal? I have a feeling a lock ring has been skipped in refitting as I've had plenty of work done on the front end of the car.
Keep in mind that the gearbox, shafts and boot seals of the 1.4 T.S. engine is different form the bigger engines.
Many thanks for any help.

sounds wrong to me, probably missing the circlip that holds the drive shaft spline in the gearbox. That's my opinion....
