hi all, i have a quick question, and i will try to post a picture later to explain a bit better, but for now, here is the problem......
i am using water, quite a lot really, to the point where i am having to fill up the coolant header tank on a 3 times a week basis. at first i though Radiator, but that has been changed for a new one, and still the same.
so, i did a bit of digging around to look for leaks. there are no visible leaks, and the engine doesn't drop coolant on the floor when parked.
however, i have noticed a brown water mark type stain down the block, that looks to originate from the head/block interface. it is on the left hand corner of the block, running down towards the oil filter (looking towards the car from the front) it never looks wet, more like a limscale stain if you see what i mean. so, could this be a partial failure of the head gasket at one of the waterways? there is no mayo in the oil, no excessive white smoke from the exhaust, none of the classic head gasket failure warning signs.
i have been looking at the 'steel seal' type products, but as i am going to be doing the cam belt soon, would it make more sense to do the head gasket at the same time? i could just do without paying out for the gasket and head bolts on top of the cambelt kit, variator, water pump (worth doing at the same time??) and associated tensioners etc etc
so, opinions please on the best course of action.
as i said, i will get a pic of the suspected area later.
