Hi, i have just discovered the joys of Alfa Romeo after buying a 1999 145 1.6 TS. Only 41k on the clock and in immaculate condition. I was previously a strict VW and Audi man but wanted to try something a little different
Is there anything i should know about these cars or Alfa in general. I know from reputation that Alfa main dealers are totally worthless, so im not going there with it...
Looking back over its service history it seems that the plugs were changed at 30k. This seems a little soon to replace platinum plugs?
Also there is a very slight tractor like sound when it starts up - something to do with a variator??? Is this a problem or is it more cosmetic - i read somewhere that its expensive to fix.
-- UPDATE --
i changed the oil (Castrol GTX magnatec 10w/40) and filter - something i always do when buying a used car. And it has fixed the tractor noise. Now it starts up very very smooth indeed
But the only problem with the car is the seat - every time i get into the car i have to drop the seat back down as it seems to raise itself up when i get out. Its a gradual thing and probably takes 30 minutes for it to go up, but is very annoying.
I took a look under the seat but could not see anything to tighten / adjust.
Does anybody know how i could fix this problem...
Thanks very much, Mark
