Re: buying a 146 2.0 Ti
There are probably lots of responses to this question if you look around the forum, but the ones that come to mind are;
Have the cam belts + balance belts + tensioners been changed recently? The 1997 maintenance schedule says belts every 72K, they don't neccesarily change the tensioners, and common opinion seems to be that they should be changed every 32-48K miles. It's about a 400 quid job.
Have the spark plugs been changed recently? Officially it's every 60K miles, but should be done a bit more often. Prices vary, Alfa will charge you 120 from memory, but there are people selling the plugs far cheaper (don't forget it's got 8!)
Check the suspension bushes and dampers as they will be shot by this mileage; the steering should be very quick and precise.
Don't be surprised if the brakes feel a bit mushy.
If it sounds like a diesel for a few minutes after startup, it's probably the variator (not that expensive if you have it done at the same time as the cambelts etc), although it's probably been fixed by now.
Make sure that the cooling fan kicks in around 90 - 95C
Yes it's a good idea to have the brown key as I don't think you can get replacement keys programmed without.
